6 Ways to Keep Your Cat Healthy

Cats are known for being quite independent, if not outright bossy. Fluffy will keep herself clean, spends most of her time sleeping, and doesn’t need training. Plus, she’ll use a litterbox, so you don’t have to walk her. However, your furry friend does still need good care to thrive. A Lexington, KY lists some ways to keep kitties healthy and purring below.

Good Food

Good health starts with good nutrition, for both people and pets. Offer Fluffy the best food you can afford. Treats are fine, but don’t go overboard with fatty snacks. Also, make sure your furball always has fresh water.

Entertainment

It’s important to provide your pet with some ways to entertain herself when she’s alone. Toys, window seats, cat furniture are all good examples of this. That said, Fluffy’s favorite source of entertainment is you. Take a few minutes a day to play with your furry pal. It will be good for her both mentally and physically.

Keep Kitty In

We can’t stress enough how beneficial it is to keep cats indoors, where they are safe from dangers like cars, weather, predators, and chemicals. This also almost entirely eliminates the chances of Fluffy running away or getting lost.

Veterinary Care

We know, most of our feline patients would rather stay home and sleep than come visit us. However, veterinary care is crucial to Fluffy’s health and well-being! Your adorable pet will need regular exams. She should also be fixed, microchipped, and current on vaccines and parasite control. At home, keep an eye out for signs of illness or injury. Call us immediately if you notice anything amiss.

Clean Litterbox

Our feline overlords like their litterboxes nice and clean, and who can blame them? Keep Fluffy’s personal powder room clean. We recommend scooping every day and changing the litter about once a week.

Comforts

Cats may pretend to be fearless and aloof, but they’re actually very emotional and affectionate. Pets get very anxious, and depressed if they feel lonely or unloved. That stress can really take a toll on them, both mentally and physically. Keep Fluffy’s motor going by paying lots of attention to her. Also, remember to offer her small kitty luxuries, like comfy beds, catnip, and, of course, empty boxes.
